In the midst of crafting a chef oriented book proposal and pitching to agents, I appreciate just how significant Julia Child was to the culinary industry's reevaluation of who's fit to be called CHEF! Without ever once murmuring #womensrights, she shifted perceptions in an industry historically infected with hypermasculinity types who loved to bully while they created. We, the public, accepted their behaviors because afterall, they were premiere chefs, weren't they? Julia's influence over time diluted these types of white male chefs who once ruled professional kitchens with iron fists, figuratively and sometimes physically.
