For those here who resent the privilege afforded to offspring of famous people, this blog is for you.

Be honest now, if you were among this elite group whose parents or grandparents or great grandparents climbed to the top of the heap in their lifetimes, you would not hold the opinions you do about this group of privileged people. You’d be taking advantage of every door opened to you by walking through it.

The privilege of legacy is age old and can be found in all professions, from medicine to law to business to academia to sports to politics to the creative arts. That descendants of those who’ve reached the heights follow in their footsteps is not new. Do you think that noted graduates and significant donors of Ivy league schools are not rewarded by those schools by accepting their descendants even if those descendants don’t demonstrate the acumen of their forefathers and mothers? What about medical schools, so hard to get into unless someone laid the groundwork by excelling during their lifetimes and shining light on their alma maters. Sports the same and if their descendants aren’t as gifted, room is made for them to find a niche within the profession should they choose.

It’s life and always has been. The takeaway? Work hard to lay the ground work for your descendants to prosper from your hard work. Take advantage of every opportunity you have that perhaps your parents and grandparents didn’t have and curb your resentment. The human condition is bigger than any one individual. ‘Supermodel’ Coco Rocha shares my viewpoint and her videos about this subject that have gone viral are worth listening to.
