Loathing Women Runs Deep &Taylor Swift Knows It
There’s an opinion piece that Newsweek published by a guy who says Taylor Swift isn’t a good role model because she’s single and w/o kids.
When I was young, late 60s/70s, witnessing these changing times when women were supposedly ‘liberated’ enough to bring home the bacon, fry it up, serve it and clean the dishes, I was always perplexed by the inequity I noted all around me. Especially in the music scene. Those guys had it ALL-fame, fortune, girls galore and permission to be as ‘free’ as they wanted to be…
The girls? Not so much. Relegated to #groupie status, most were there to serve the boys. Of course there were exceptions but those in the exception category were not given the same permissions to be as free as they wanted to be. They faced consequences the boys in those bands did not face.
I’m reminded of this inequity as I read about the indictments against #diddy who for decades has been as free as he has wanted to be. The women associated with him? Not so much.
Ole Donny came up in this era and his inherited wealth from daddy-o made it that much easier for Donny to be as free as he wanted to be. His women? Not so much.
I’ve always felt that during those ‘liberating’ times, women still managed to get the short end of the stick. Taylor Swift was raised by a woman, my contemporary, who may feel the same way I always have felt. Perhaps she schooled her daughter to prepare for this inequity. And if she did? #AndreaSwift has done her job well.
