My Constitutional Right Not Your Problem?

Watching cable has renewed my appreciation for some pundits, #LawrenceODonnell being one. Yesterday, 5/5/22, he spoke to the men in his audience about women. He spoke to them about the constitutional right that likely will be stripped from women. He spoke about defending constitutional rights mandated by that document that all of US need to defend. He spoke directly to men viewing his show. (video not up on youtube yet).

Forever, I’ve wondered where men are because their voices, collectively and historically, have been silent regarding a woman’s right to control her biological destiny, a right mandated by the Constitution in 1973.

Just yesterday, a fellow Facebook ‘friend’ jumped on my page to respond to a meme I posted re: #SCOTUSLEAK He simply wrote ‘I’m glad I’m gay…this issue doesn’t concern me…’

Yes, he did and then defended it, this older white gay man who’s a nice guy I’m sure. A guy whose sexuality and right to love whomever he pleases I’ve consistently and over time defended as have so many other women. A guy whose tribe lost hundreds of thousands because too few cared that gay guys were dying. He wrote that on my page, me, a former RN on the line advocating for the rights of gay men dying from a plague no one wanted to address. He wrote that to me, a writer whose first novel revolved around the early years of the AIDS crisis and the hate set off in a California coastal town. He wrote that to me, a woman who has used her voice to advocate for marriage equity and #LGBTQ rights since forever.

He said that to me, “It’s not my problem and I’m glad I’m an old gay guy.”

People aren’t funny, they’re confounding. My constitutional right is not your problem? No wonder we’re tribal and not communal. No wonder they continue to attack one tribe over and over again. They know the other tribes don’t much care.

Because it’s not their problem. However, if they get away with this, folks who think this is not their problem better start circling their wagons around their tribe because this mob likely will come after their constitutional rights next.

It’s call autocracy and that’s a problem for all of US.
